Currently Loving Eclectic Jewelry:

Accessories, mainly jewelry is a statement of who a person is.  It’s your chance to set yourself apart, show a sense of style that is unlike anything you would wear, specifically clothing.  Yes, some people do have that special gift of taking something that is mass-produced and making it look unique; while some of the rest of us are feeling left in the dark about what to do.

Lucky for us, there is and has been a lot of jewelry that is being produced that seems to tap into this more unique, eclectic sense of style-making a single piece look unique by mixing the materials and textures.

One of my favorite jewelry companies, Iosselliani, does this perfectly, allowing their pieces to be mixed and matched to create an even more unique piece or collection.

There is just something about Iosselliani’s ring collection that seems a little different.  It seems that designers Roberta Paolucci and Paolo Giacomelli have thought about the wearer of these pieces as someone who has traveled, and collected each piece from a very special place.  But then by placing all of these elements together, there is a finished “collection” that shows as a well rounded accessory.  They have allowed the wearer ultimate control, mixing and matching to whatever mood you might feel.

There are other options for eclectic jewelry out there; Iosselliani is one of my favorites because of the polished nature of each collection.  In some instances you might think that looking at each ring individually you would not place them together. Paolucci and Giacomelli make this look effortless, and in my mind have inspired many other collections of eclectic work.

Denise Julia Reytan is yet another designer that is taking the eclectic feeling to an entirely new level.  Just browsing through her website you get the sense that each piece is more of an art form and an expression than anything else.  She developed a collection by combining some unique materials: rope, silicone, glass, and plastic, just to name a few.  While her necklaces are much different from Iosselliani’s in that it is all one piece, she has managed to make each piece fool the eye, making one think that this is just another collection of unique pieces.

How do you begin to incorporate something like this into your everyday wear? Companies have begun to make this quite simple, realizing that we are now in a consumer age that prefers that everything be customized.  Rings would be the easiest option, layering 2, 3 or 4 together to make your own collection; you could also change up the inclusions on a daily basis to give yourself some variety.  This could be accomplished with necklaces as well, or even bracelets-use your own discretion and just think about what you are comfortable wearing.

What we’re in love with this week:

Summer trends are still going strong, and with that there are some current sunny trends that we have fallen in love with.

Bright, saturated colors:  Everything from nail polish, to accessories to pants is showing the heavy influence of color blocking in the with the summer trend.  Although designers introduced this trend years ago, in the 80s and early 90s, there is a much more modern spin that they have put on what once could be considered a dated look.  Design houses such as Chanel, Gucci and Prada were leading the runways with color.  Even the designer’s ready to wear collections are showing the major influence of bright bold blocks of color.  The use of color has trickled down from clothing into accessories and make-up as well.  While some style sites suggest that for the common person it is not economical to update a closet every season, design houses including Chanel and Prada for instance, make this trend easy to follow through adding up to date accessories to your closet, or even doing something as simple as changing nail color.  These design houses tend to set the trend for that season, and everything comes down to even mass market items.  A more affordable accessory might include a bright Michael Kors watch; which will instantly update the clothes you currently have to appear up to date with what’s on trend this season.

Color blocking can be a relatively easy and fun trend to follow.  You may add bits of color through your accessories; or even play with blocking some pieces you currently have in your closet with the addition of a belt, some colorful shoes, a bag, or a colorful skirt.

Bright colors have been the most popular in color blocking this season, but there are also neutral and muted tones, which are being blocked as well.  The most exciting thing about color blocking is that even with the simplest, slightest additions of color you will be able to wake up your wardrobe, and appear fresh, and bright for the long summer days that are still ahead.  Happy blocking!
